"I'm a mouse....duh." -Karen Smith, Mean Girls

Emily, Olivia, Rachel and I did two of our assigned walks in the Marais area (Walks 7 & 8). It was the most elegant and movie-like part of Paris that I have seen yet. Looked like the beautiful, instrumental opening segment to Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris. The Marias quarter is built on a swamp and was once upon a time the dumpiest part of Paris. Henry IV changed this by encouraging nobility to live there, and now it is beautiful, classic, and off the beaten-tourist path. In the morning it was sunny and beautiful, in the afternoon it was rainy and even more beautiful. We visited a few museums in the area which dealt with the history of Paris and were mainly boring but slightly instructive. One museum, the Carnavalet had the most beautiful courtyard I have ever seen (pictures to follow). Also on the walk I saw some beautiful French architecture. Paris is so beautiful because it merges the architectural styles of so many different eras. In the Marais there are beautiful renaissance inspired homes interrupted by an old crumbling wall which dates back to 1200. Very charming. Charmante. I'm considering putting the Midnight in Paris soundtrack on my ipod and taking a walk through Le Marais on my own one day soon.

After the walks, Emily and I fell behind and lost everyone else because we kept finding so many shoes in so many shops that we were in love with. I bought a few. Including some little shoes that have mouse faces on the toe. We also visited a real live French Perfumerie, loved it.

Doing well here. Our host family is wonderful. Very right wing and very nervous about the elections this Sunday. Host mom says she will be crying if Francois Hollande is elected.

Would you know my name, if I saw you in heaven.
